Are you the type of person that’s idea for interior decorating is limited to a TV and bed on the floor? Or maybe you have a fairly good eye when it comes to home design but wish you could see what a piece would look like inside your home before you purchased it. Apparently you aren’t the only one with these issues. 3D home design startup Modsy just received huge funding.
The idea is simple; upload images of the room you want designed and let Modsy do the rest.
The process starts with a Style Quiz to better understand the idea you have for that room. The quiz begins by asking which room you are designing. It then asks if you are moving or redecorating and roughly how furnished your space is. To better understand the limit of your project it asks a rough estimate of your budget and a style you are drawn towards. It asks you to select rooms that “appeal most to you.” It then suggests the style you are drawn towards and asks you to like or dislike a few random items to get an even better overall idea. All that’s left is uploading a few photos of your room, regardless of clutter or mess, and Modsy builds a 3D model of your space.
Modsy is a great tool to get you started with your design by suggesting products that you will most likely enjoy based on your style and even suggest efficient and appealing layouts. The apps editor is surprisingly fluent and easy to use as you completely rearrange and design your living space with difference pieces of furniture. Even if you’re looking for just one specific piece instead of a complete redesign, Modsy can recreate your current furniture and show you how it will look with the new piece. Working with hundreds of brands, you can access all of this apps capability for only $69 a room. Or you can take it a step further and receive 1 on 1 access to a personal style advisor.
Modsy has shown so much success that this morning they announced closing a $23 million Series B round. Their list of investors include Norwest Venture Partners, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, Comcast Ventures and most recently, Advance Venture Partners. Altogether, Modsy has raised $33.75 million since founder, Shanna Tellerman, had the idea in 2013.
“Thanks to advancements in 3D renderings, the days of guessing how furniture and decor will look inside a space is long gone,” Tellerman told Tech Crunch. “This round of funding indicates that the industry is at a tipping point, and Modsy is leading the charge by taking a technology-first approach to transforming the home design market.”
This app allows people with the worst eye for style to get the best design by working with an interior decorator for a fraction of the normal cost. It also allows excellent interior designers to visualize how a piece will look in a room before actually purchasing it. It’s clear that the field of home furniture is changing in this technological world and Modsy appears ahead of the rest.
