Lighting can really make or break the mood of a room. I’ve written quite a few reviews on smart lighting, so I’m a little obsessed. I like to host events at my place and always have people over, so it’s really important for me to create a nice ambiance. Coming across the LIFX Z Light Strip, I was mesmerized by the gradient of colors illuminating different areas of a room. In comparison to other smart lights, this one looks to be the most festive. My only question is, ‘do they work as well as other smart lights?’
The basics of the LIFX Z Light Strip
The best part of LIFX lights are that they don’t require a smart hub and are generally more affordable than other brands like Philips Hue. The light strip is 9.9 feet and has a 24 color zone. The strip has an adhesive on the back so you can easily stick it to anywhere you’d like. There’s a connector box and a power brick connected to the strip, but they both have an adhesive that you can stick under or behind somewhere to hide. The Light Strip is also compatible with third party smart devices like the Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung Smartthings so you can control it from these platforms if you’d like. However, it doesn’t work with Homekit unlike the Philips HUE Light Strip. However, the LIFX Starter Kit will cost you about $90, which is the same price as the Philips HUE Light Strip, except the fact you don’t have to buy a hub for it. The LIFX is a lot more affordable in that case.
The LIFX app is where you can have all the fun
You can set the lighting to how you like it by adjusting the color wheel in the app. You can change the saturation and brightness of the light by sliding up and down. There are also white lights you can customize from yellow to warm white lights. The best part of adjusting the lighting are the different themes you can choose from such as a ‘Blissful’ theme to ‘Tranquil’.’ The themes create multi colored gradients that are aesthetically appealing to just about anyone. There are different effects you can play with, such as making the lights flickers with ‘Candle Flicker’ or ‘Color Cycle’ to change variation of the lights.
